A 10-year-old girl sews garments instead of going to school.
An older brother raises his siblings because his parents have passed away with HIV.
Kids in the inner city not having the same oppurtunities as their peers.

Do any of these images sound familiar? Many of us have traveled and seen firsthand the realities of children throughout the world, and even within our communities here in Southern California. Something needs to change, to give young people both locally and abroad opportunities, so that poverty does not become a continuous cycle.

There are 93 million children of primary school age throughout the world who are not in school (UNICEF, 2005).

6 million K-12 students in California at serious risk (California Budget Project, 2008).

Why is education a path to empowerment?
How can we, as individuals be inspired to take action- so that there are equal opportunities in education throughout the world?

Now, it’s your turn to do something.
At this Evening of Awareness we will learn how we are all a part of the solution.

MEET people from various non-profits working both locally and globally to provide education opportunities for the under-privileged.

ENGAGE in dialogue with a panel discussion of dedicated activists, and learn more about the interconnectedness of social issues through an interactive web activity.

BE INSPIRED as you learn and share what education means to you on the wall of inspiration.

ENJOY the positive energy expressed through the beats of DJ nPrevail along with the music, poetry, dance and live art of local artists.

FOOD will be provided, along with raffle prizes!
